Можете ли вы себе представить Стивена Пирси из Ratt в качестве вокалиста Iron Maiden? Результат, стараниями специалистов из Island Records, можно услышать на альбоме команды со зловещим названием Leatherwolf. С одной стороны, музыка группы представляет собой мелодичный пауэр с явным мейденовским влиянием, а местами даже со сменой ритма, характерной для трэш-групп, имеет место инструментальная композиция "Black Knight". С другой - звук на альбоме сделан слишком мягким, а в текстах некоторых песен проскальзывают фразы типа "Dream Comes True", более характерные для AOR-коллективов. Но, несмотря на все нестыковки, песни слушаются с удовольствием. Явных провалов и случаев плагиата не наблюдается, "Hideway" и "Thunder" можно назвать хитами, дуэт гитаристов Джефф Гейер-Гэри Хау один из лучших в стиле пауэр. Альбом "Street Ready" - ярчайший пример того, как неграмотное продюсирование может убить хороший материал. |

Позволю себе не согласиться с предыдущей оценкой. На самом деле, альбом отличный во всех отношениях. Да, чуть смягченное и явно нацеленное на привлечение новых поклонников звучание здесь присутствует, но в целом музыка остается весьма тяжелым хэви/пауэр-металом. Хотя имеют место и композиции с заметным влиянием хард-рока - откровенно коммерческие, хотя от этого вовсе не плохие «The Way I Feel» и «Lonely Road», а уж «Hideaway» - настоящий шедевр мелодичного метала, несмотря ни на что. Но в остальном к альбому не придраться: идеальное качество звука, практически полное отсутствие слащавости в остальных композициях и очень профессиональная игра музыкантов. Особенно выделю гитарное трио (!!!), которое играет предельно слаженно и технично, выдавая красивые запоминающиеся мелодии вкупе с мощными атакующими риффами. Стилистически «Street Ready» - продолжение двух предыдущих альбомов, то есть американский пауэр-метал с сильным влиянием NWOBHM и Iron Maiden в частности. Но самое главное, что, в отличие от предыдущих работ, проходных песен здесь попросту нет! Среди наиболее удачных композиций выделю открывающий «Wicked Ways» с мелодичным припевом и сменами темпа, очень динамичные хэви-металические боевики «Street Ready» и «Thunder», уже упомянутую «Hideaway» и скоростной шедевр с агрессивным рваным риффингом «Spirits in the Wind». Коммерческий налет, возможно, несколько испортил впечатление от этого альбома, но в остальном «Street Ready» практически идеален. Пожалуй, музыкально это лучший альбом Leatherwolf за всю историю существования группы. Фэнам как хард-рока, так и американского хэви/пауэра 80-х это творение будет особенно интересным. |
