When we think Female Fronted Symphonic Metal and Gothic Metal, our minds automatically think of the Ethereal Diva's such as Tarja Turunen (ex Nightwish) and Simone Simons (Epica) and each year another carbon copy enters the scene. It seems as though the genre is crying out for a change. Perhaps the change is right here.
Australian singer Darkyra Black has her own unique style of vocal delivery and a special way of blending together all the different aspects of her vocal, she'll use any means possible in order to get her point across. Her music is modern, dark and edgy.
It was through a company called Online Recording Masters in Athens that Darkyra found her counterparts for this project. George Boussounis, owner/music arranger formed the introduction to drummer Garry King (Jeff Beck, Joe Lynn Turner, Ian Parry) who was involved in his own uprising power metal project Achillea and not too long after the bond had seen three additional Achillea members join the ranks of the Darkyra band. Guitarist Paul Jupe, Keyboard Player, Fab Jablonski and Bass Player, Betovani Dinelli.September 2013, Colin Haynes joined the group to the role of bass and Betovani became an additional guitarist alongside Paul.
"Dragon Tears" is the first Darkyra album to be released May 2013. The album is a concept album based on a gothic interpretation of geisha tale that ends in tragedy. Love, loss, lust, betrayal and revenge. The music is a fine blend of symphonic metal, gothic metal, epic metal and progressive rock with elements of traditional pentatonic music and an overall cinematic feel. The album is being co produced by Garry King, Darkyra Black and George Boussounis, through Online Recording Masters Athens and La Foret Groupe France.
