In mid 2004, a team of four musicians united under the banner of Mind Assault for the first time. Jacques, Francois, Donovan and Patrick were always and still are most passionate about playing metal music and enjoying the “family” atmosphere that is inherent within the metal scene.
At the time, Mind Assault was lacking a drummer who shared the vision of the four existing members, and so in September recruited a friend of the band to help get things off the ground. In the next month, Mind Assault was seen onstage for the first time. Stephan helped to build the band over a period of two years, until a suitable replacement was found for the drums. So at the start of 2007, Andries joined Mind Assault and the band reached its present line-up.
LIVE ENTERTAINMENT
Consisting of musicians who have all played in other groups prior to Mind Assault, it did not take the band long to become leaders of their genre within the realm of live entertainment. The bands reputation is such that it has often been commented “Mind Assault is the most entertaining band onstage, and off…”
Their first ‘cross-genre' experiences took place as early as in 2005 where the band presented a metal front alongside South Africa's top rock, punk and even folk acts. It was proven at events like ‘Robertson Rocks Festival' that not only heavy metal audiences enjoyed what Mind Assault had to offer, but the masses in general!
Through 2006 and 2007, the band started to concentrate efforts on probing the metal market on a national level. This thrust included regular visits to Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban and Pietermaritzburg, and outings to many other towns across the country ranging from Mpumalanga down into the Boland.
In 2008, the success of having put in so much mileage and hard work has become evident. Mind Assault is now being booked for various events and festivals country-wide, which includes some hard earned headlining slots alongside some of the countries other top acts. Events such as METAL4AFRICA and RAMFEST which attract hundreds and even thousands of punters have now featured Mind Assault in “top-slot” positions.
RECORDING
Owing to busy performance schedules, Mind Assault delayed the release of the album “Stigma” until February 2008. To appease the greedy masses, the band has put out an independently released 5-track demo EP in 2005, a feature-length DVD in 2007, and have featured on a number of compilation CD's including “Fear The Noise” (Witchdoctor Records – 2006), “Innocent Blood” (Independent – 2006) and, “Hammer The Masses” (Dual Records – 2007).
